About LinkedIn or Interpol

Hi, I’m Jenish Patel. I’m a full-stack developer, and LinkedIn or Interpol is a side project I built for fun.

Who I am

I build web applications from end to end: the pages you see, the server code behind them and the hosting that keeps them online. Side projects are where I try ideas for the fun of it, and LinkedIn or Interpol is one of them. I build and look after it myself.

Why I built it

The joke behind the game had been going round for a while: a stiff corporate headshot and a police photo can look surprisingly alike. I wanted to find out whether people can really tell the two apart, so I built my own version of the game for fun.

It turned out to be more interesting than I expected. Almost everyone is confident for the first few faces, and then the answers start proving them wrong. That small surprise, realising how quickly we read a whole story into one photo, is what I enjoy most about it, and it’s why I keep improving the game.

How I run it

  • Free to play. No account, no download and no paid version.
  • Private by default. No cookies, trackers or ads. Your score stays in your browser. The privacy policy explains exactly what is stored.
  • Fair rounds. Every group of ten faces has five from each source, so guessing the same answer every time doesn’t pay off.
  • Fast on any phone. Pages are plain HTML, photos are small and the game runs on Cloudflare’s network, so it loads quickly even on a slow connection.
  • Removals taken seriously. If someone asks for a photo to be taken out, I remove it from the game.

About the photos

I use real data from LinkedIn and INTERPOL for education and entertainment purposes only. A guess is about where a photo was published, never about a person’s character. Profile details can be out of date, and a public notice is not a finding of guilt. More about where the photos come from.

What’s next

I add new filters and small improvements when I have time, and I read every suggestion. If there’s something you’d like to see in the game, I’d love to hear it.

Independent project

LinkedIn or Interpol isn’t affiliated with LinkedIn, Microsoft or INTERPOL. The names only describe the two answer choices.
